That route is a narrow operational design domain: wide, marked internal paths, few pedestrians, no mixed city traffic, and a single job — get from point A to point B. It is useful for plant logistics. It is not a stand-in for unsupervised driving on German streets.

A general-assembly employee identified as Jan appears in the footage discussing the fleet’s combined distance. Tesery has not independently audited Tesla’s odometer total. The 93,000-mile number should be read as a company-reported factory statistic, first amplified by Merritt’s post.

Factory grounds vs public roads

Germany’s rules for automated driving remain cautious. Owners there still do not get the FSD (Supervised) or unsupervised features sold in some other markets. Running the software on Tesla-owned property avoids the public-road approval process. It does not change that process.

The software case is narrower. Repeatable campus trips can help Tesla watch a vision stack on the same route, after a software push, in one controlled setting. That is complementary to customer-fleet “edge case” data, not a replacement for it. It is also a small preview of fleet logistics — moving finished vehicles to a lot — that a future Robotaxi network would need inside depots. It is not proof that Robotaxi is ready for Berlin streets.

August 2026 update: Europe moved; Germany did not

The May story sat in a gap: FSD working on a German factory lot while German drivers still could not use it. That gap is still there. What changed is the rest of Europe.
